Brian Mackenwells (Centre PE Officer), Andy and Justin receiving the PE prize from John Todd

At the recent Centre Away Day, the Knight group was awarded the ‘Excellence in Public Engagement for Projects’ prize. This was for their workshops which introduced 17/18 year-old, science students to our work in a research lab setting. The judging panel was impressed by the mix of lab based and bioinformatics activities (generation and analysis of DNA sequence variants) and their relevance to the day-to-day activities of the group.

Many congratulation to Andy and Justin who developed the programme which has helped in establishing a strong relationship with Abingdon School. Through the Abingdon Science Partnership, their science facilities are made available to students from state-funded schools. So far, we have run the Science Day twice, reaching seven different schools. A further workshop is planned for later on in the year.
