Tom Tipton

Tom Tipton is a senior postdoctoral research scientist within the high consequence pathogens group, based at the Wellcome centre. During his Undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds he developed an interest in immunology and successfully completed an MSc in Biosciences: infection and immunity in 2008.

In 2016, Tom obtained his PhD in cancer immunology at the University of Southampton, under the supervision of Professors Mark Cragg and Stephen Beers. His project was focussed on Fc:FcgR mechanisms of action in the context of anti-CD20 mAb therapy. Upon completion of his PhD Tom worked for Public Health England (PHE), Porton Down on a project which looked to longitudinally assess the cellular and humoral response amongst a cohort of Ebolavirus disease (EVD) survivors in Guinea. Tom now works in the high consequence pathogens group under the supervision of Professor Miles Carroll and is primarily interested understanding host pathogen interactions in the context of Ebolavirus or SARS-CoV-2 infection.
