Colin Freeman

PhD

Senior Research Computing Systems Administrator

I am a member of the Biomedical Research Computing (BMRC) team. We are responsible for the research computing infrastructure within the WHG and the Big Data Institute including a high-throughput cluster and an on-premise Openstack cloud. Please see our webpages for more information.

I have a focus on multi-user AI/Machine Learning/GPU systems. I work with scientists in diverse biomedical fields to enable their research using the latest technology from NVidia and ML platforms such as Tensorflow and PyTorch.

Previously I was a Senior Scientific Programmer within the Donnelly group. I worked as a project lead for the UK Biobank Genotyping and Imputation project working with UK Biobank and academic and commercial partners to deliver the first genomics dataset for 500,000 participants of the UK Biobank study. The data set is made available to researchers through the UK Biobank access mechanism (https://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/). Details of the project are published in Nature.

I have also worked as a Scientific Programmer on the WTCCC2 project and on the International HapMap project. I developed the GTOOL package.
