Work Experience Programme

The Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics offers a one-week work experience programme, which will be in August 2020. Applcations are expected to open in March 2020.

Students must be in year 12 to take part in the programme, must be over 16 years old by the start of thep rogramme, and will be fully supervised at all times. While not obligatory, it will help to have done, or currently be doing, a biology related course.

Applicants will need to provide a two-page CV, and a supporting statement of no more than 500 words. We will also need a contact email, and school adddress.

Students will get the opportunity to extract DNA from saliva samples, use the polymerase chain reaction to amplify this DNA, and perform restriction digestions of the PCR products. There will also be an opportunity to meet lab leaders from throughout the centre, and find out more about the research going on at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.
