Genetics of Complex Traits in Model Organisms

Gauguier group

The objectives of the research group are to identify susceptibility genes for human multifactorial disorders through investigations in rodent models, and characterize the function of disease genes at the whole organism, organ and cellular levels. Projects primarily focus on the analysis of the genetic determinants of Type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disorders, insulin resistance and polycystic kidney disease) in models. The laboratory is also involved in the production of genetic and genomic resources for the rat and comparative mapping analysis between the rat, mouse and human genomes. Several coordinated and complementary approaches are combined, including metabolic and hormonal investigations relevant to diabetes, genotype analysis in experimental crosses and quantitative trait locus mapping (QTL mapping), bioinformatics, high throughput expression profiling, positional cloning of disease genes and mutation detection.
