Simon Leedham

Prize for work on colorectal cancer

Simon Leedham, CRUK Clinician Scientist Fellow at WTCHG and the Translational Gastroenterology Unit, has been named as the recipient of the Sir Francis Avery-Jones BSG Research Award for 2015. The award is made annually by the British Society of Gastroenterology.

Simon will give the Sir Francis Avery-Jones Lecture at the Society’s annual meeting in June, speaking on the subject ‘On the edge of chaos – micro-environmental control of cell fate determination’. Simon and his colleagues have made a key discovery about the stem-cell origin of some tumours in the lining of the large intestine (see ‘Top to bottom changes in colorectal cancer’).
