Paul Vauterin joined the group in 2012 as a principal scientific software engineer. He is currently working on web-based software for visualisation and analysis of the data produced by the group.

Paul studied physics and completed a Ph.D. in theoretical astrophysics at the University of Ghent (Belgium). He became interested in numerical algorithms for bioinformatics applications, and founded the company Applied Maths in 1994. He developed the BioNumerics software suite, which has become a global standard for the analysis of bacterial molecular typing data.
