Dilair obtained his PhD from Birmingham University in population genetics followed by postdoctoral positions to study DNA sequence variation and its long-term evolution under varying environments. In 1989 Dilair moved to Nuffield Department of Pathology & Bacteriology at John Radcliffe Hospital to investigate cellular and molecular biology of cancer metastasis and invasiveness. Dilair worked for five years as a senior scientist at Oxford BioMedica (UK) Ltd on cancer gene therapy program, developing MLV and lentiviral vectors with a view to meeting clinically acceptable criteria for safety and efficacy that meet regulatory approval. In 2002, Dilair moved to MRC Functional Genetics Unit-Oxford University to set up, run and manage the Microarray facility. Dilair contributed to translation of the vast amount of data produced to biologically meaningful observation with clinical implications. Dilair joined Genomics group in 2008 to make further contributions towards the development of genomic based technology and its medical applications.
