Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics

Statistical genetics and bioinformatics

The group has a strong focus on computational (statistical and bioinformatics) aspects of genetic analysis and has contributed to the methodological literature in areas such as sibpair linkage study design, interpretation of genome wide linkage data, interpretation of fine-mapping data and the tagging performance of the HapMap. We are actively engaged in developing and evaluating new methods for the analysis of genome wide association data (in the light of the WTCCC data), and for the integration of data from diverse populations and study designs (in the context of the 1q consortium). We also have interests in the development of software solutions for data integration (in collaboration with the REACTOME group: www.reactome.org) and in text-mining as a tool (www.genesniffer.org) for obtaining functional inferences required in the interpretation of large-scale analyses.
