The McCarthy Group. The diabetes research group led by Prof Mark McCarthy is based at both the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM: www.ocdem.ox.ac.uk) and the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (WTCHG). These two buildings are about 400m apart on adjacent University sites in the Headington area of Oxford. Click here for a map of the site http://www.oxfordradcliffe.nhs.uk/findus/churchill/ch_sitemaptemp.aspx (the WTCHG is in the University of Oxford Old Road Campus area towards the top of the map). The research of the group is based around the following strands: Susceptibility gene identification in type 2 diabetes and related conditions. Translating gene identification into biological insights and clinical advances. Statistical genetics and bioinformatics. We are active members of several major consortia including the UK Type 2 diabetes genetics consortium, BAIR, MolPAGE, the WTCCC, IGWANA, INTERACT, the International 1q consortium, EURODIA and ENDGAME.
