The Leica CM-3050-S Cryostat
The Leica CM3050 S cryostat is designed primarily for the demanding needs of cryosectioning systems in the field of biomedical, neuro-anatomical and pharmaceutical research. Particularly when working with delicate specimens - for example brain samples in neuroscience - the precise specimen orientation and the specimen feed system via step motor guarantees reproducible thin serial sections of maximum quality.
The Leica CM3050 S cryostat features superior user comfort with excellent safety standards for practically all types of cryosectioning applications. It is the instrument of choice for all cryosectioning research applications and also for advanced clinical cryosectioning needs. Included as a standard feature is a sectioning motor, ensuring fatigue-free ribbon sectioning, and you can select the section thickness at the control panel, outside the cryochamber. The cryostat can be easily disinfected with Leica Cryofect disinfectant spray at a temperature of around -20°C. The entire cleaning process is completed within less than 25 minutes.

Instruction manuals and advice to users
To download the complete Leica User Guide for the CM3050S, follow this link. In addition there is the Leica Cryo-embedding brochure, Cryostat brochure, and the Knife Holder user guide. There are also the two Leica application notes on cryo paper-embedding and the art of embedding frozen tissue. Plus there's details of how to disinfect the cryostat and the OCT embedding compound safety data sheet. There's also the two page Core notice fixed to the wall by the Leica cryostat that has some useful information.
The Microscopy Core's Leica CM-3050-S cryostat is located in the Histology room, 10/141, off lab 4. A diary is provided for booking the cryostat in advance. All new cryostat users should contact the Core before using the system.
