Jack O'Brien

Jack OBrienAnalysis team

Jack is currently involved in designing novel statistical methodologies to understand parasite population genetics, and developing tools for variation calling in genome pipelines. He is also part of the team which conducts statistical and epidemiological workshops for MalariaGEN partners, building local capacity in statistical knowledge.

Jack completed a Ph.D. in mathematical biology at UCLA, under the supervision of Profs. Zhen-Su She and Marc Suchard, designing statistical techniques for assessing evolutionary changes of rapidly-evolving pathogens.  He was then a research associate at the University of Bristol, working with Prof. Peter Green and Dr. Daniel Falush, where they implemented the one of the first model-based approaches to high-throughput metagenomics data.
