Gavin Band

Analysis team

Gavin works as a statistician on the large dataset collected by the MalariaGEN consortium for the purpose of genome-wide association studies in human malaria. This dataset represents not only a huge opportunity for discovery, but also a great statistical and bioinformatic challenge; Gavin spends most of his time grappling with these challenges.

Gavin's PhD is in mathematics and he has spent time as a postdoc as well as working in industry as a software engineer.  He began work in genetics joining the WTCCC2 large-scale genome-wide association study in 2009, before moving to the MalariaGEN group in 2011.
