FMedSci for Simon Hay

Professor Simon Hay, who recently brought many of his Spatial Ecology and Epidemiology Group from the Department of Zoology to WTCHG, is one of 40 biomedical scientists elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences this week.

Academy Fellows are elected for excellence in medical research, for innovative application of scientific knowledge or for their conspicuous service to healthcare.

Hay’s group investigates spatial and temporal aspects of infectious disease epidemiology to provide an improved cartographic evidence base for programmes of disease control. He has led initiatives to map the global distribution of a wide variety of pathogens, including malaria, dengue, Leishmania and ebola, to help optimize the allocation of intervention resources.
