Flint Group - current
research
The Flint Group aims to investigate
the genetic basis of psychiatric disorders.
We are focusing in particular on the origins of
stress-related conditions, such as anxiety and depression.
These disorders currently have
relatively ineffective treatments. They are common, disabling
and can be difficult to treat. [Further information on
depression
(from the NARSAD website)]
We have been working on the genetic basis
of susceptibility to anxiety and depression
for over a decade. [For non-scientists: more here on
understanding genetic disorders]
Recent scientific advances are
making it increasingly possible to analyse the role that
specific genes play in psychiatric disorders. [For
non-scientists: more here on
techniques for investigating genetic disorders]
This site contains more detailed
information about the work we do. Please have a look!
