I recently joined the Newbury group and my project is focused on the investigation of copy number variant (CNV) events in Specific Language Impairment (SLI).

Copy number events account for a large proportion of normal genetic variation and have been shown to play a role in the aetiology of complex diseases and susceptibility to developmental disorders, but have yet to be investigated in SLI.

Information regarding copy number variants will be combined with SNP association data to provide a comprehensive overview of the effect of common genetic variation in SLI.

I'm a PhD student from Alma Mater Studiorum University, Bologna, where I worked on a project about the genetic aetiology of autism, a complex neurodevelopmental disease in which communicative deficits show a significant overlap with SLI.
