Elena achieved her M.D. degree at the University of Padova (IT) in 2004. She performed her thesis work at the Department of Histology, Microbiology and Medical Biotechnologies of the University of Padova under the supervision of Prof. Giorgio Palù. She spent the next 4 years at the Department of Oncology and Surgical Sciences of the University of Padova under the supervision of Dr. Stefano Indraccolo and Prof. Alberto Amadori, where her reaserch was focused on the effects of anti-angiogenic drugs in experimental tumor models and on the role of HIF-1a inactivation in the response to hypoxia of ovarian cancer-derived cells. She is currently finishing her post-graduate specialization in Oncology. In September 2008 she started working at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics within the Genomics group where she is investigating the role of hypoxia-regulated miRNAs in breast cancer cells.
