Carme graduated from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain) in 1998 with a degree in Biology. She spent the next two years in the Institut de Bioquimica Clinica (Barcelona, Spain) where she completed a Master thesis in Clinical biochemistry and Molecular pathology. At this moment she moved over to Strasbourg (France), where she was carrying out her PhD at the Institut de Genetique et de Biologie Moleculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC), in collaboration with the Institut de Bioquimica Clinica (Barcelona, Spain). Her project focused in the study of the molecular mechanisms of X-linked Adrenoleukodystrophy (a severe human metabolic and neurodegenerative disease) in mouse models. After completion of her PhD thesis, in October 2005, she started working at the University of Oxford within the Genomics Group at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. Carme is investigating the effects of hypoxia on microRNA expression in MCF7 cells.
