Professor Barbara Casadei of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and the WTCHG has been named a British Heart Foundation Professor, one of only 30 in the country and the only woman. The award is made to ‘individuals with outstanding cardiovascular research leadership qualities’.
Barbara heads a group investigating the role of nitric oxide/redox signalling in conditions such as atrial fibrillation and other disorders of the heart muscle. She is currently undertaking a clinical trial of statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs) in people who have had bypass surgery, to see whether it reduces the risk of atrial fibrillation after the operation.
