How does the heart grow?
Why do some children have heart problems?
Can we work out what goes wrong?
Can we work out a way to fix these heart problems?
These are questions that we often ask about heart problems that we are born with. We are asking you and your mummy or daddy to help us begin to answer these questions by giving us a tiny amount of your blood. We can do this when you are having a blood test for another reason or when you are asleep during a heart operation so you will not even notice.

It seems strange to ask for a blood sample to understand heart problems!
We can use this blood sample to find out how the body helps the heart grow in tiny babies. We already know that inside the body there are lots of instructions that control how our bodies work. These instructions are called DNA. DNA is found in cells in the blood. We need to understand these instructions so that we can make better medicines.
